Prepare for hurricane season at Pender Long Term Recovery Group’s expo on July 17.
Pender Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG) invites residents to attend the upcoming 2021 Disaster Preparedness Expo on Saturday, July 17 in Rocky Point. The expo provides an opportunity for Pender County residents to get information on disaster preparedness and sign up for CodeRed Alerts while adding some items to their Disaster To-Go Kit.
Pender Long Term Recovery Group formed as the result of Hurricane Florence and encourages Pender County citizens to continue to prepare for the hurricane season.
“We want Pender residents to Be Prepared, Make a Plan & Stay Connected,” says Michelle Green, Pender Long Term Recovery Group Project Coordinator.
The Disaster Preparedness Expo will include partners such as the Disability Resource Center, Pender County Emergency Management and the Pender County Health Department.
Pender County Health Department will be available to answer questions on COVID vaccine availability and the special needs registry. Partners and contributors will supply hurricane preparedness information and literature, Disaster Supply Kit items and partner rebuilding information.
A Wills Clinic will also be provided by Legal Aid of North Carolina, their Disaster Relief Project. Pender residents who were impacted by Hurricane Florence and who qualify will be able to speak to an attorney to get assistance to create a will, healthcare and financial powers of attorney and more prepared for their family.
Advance signup is preferred.
The Salvation Army will be on site with their cantina, providing snacks and hotdogs to those in attendance. Attendees can also look to win various raffle items and preparedness supplies.
Pender LTRG is composed of nonprofits, faith-based organizations and charitable organizations who work in union to meet the unmet needs of Pender County residents impacted by disaster.
Pender LTRG works in collaboration with other organizations to assess needs, offer resources and ensure that residents are assisted.
“We look forward to serving residents of Pender County, assisting with ways to be prepared for the possibility of a next hurricane or disaster in our area,” says Olivia Dawson, Pender Long Term Recovery Group co-chair.
